Hello All,

I am in the process of upgrading a Exhange 2000 to a new server running Exchange 2003. I would like to keep the orginal server name after the migration of the mailboxs. How is this accomplished? Can I just rename the server after the migration?

Thanks

No you cannot rename an Exchange Server, why is it you're so hooked on keeping the old name?

When you move mailboxes to the new server using the Move Mailbox Wizard, the Outlook profiles will be updated automatically.

Hello Henrik,

That is good news about the Outlook profiles. Most of our users are using OWA, but there are plenty that are using the Outlook. I was just concerned with all the DNS and firewall changes that I would have to make. Is there a document on upgrading from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 that specfically explains the process of upgrading and de-commission the old server? I downloaded the Step-by-Step_ Migrating Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 Using New Hardware.pdf, but I don't recall any information about the removal of the old server.

Thanks

The article tells you to uninstall Exchange from the old server in the very end, but there's also a splendid MS KB article explaining how to do this:

How to remove the first Exchange Server 2003 computer from the administrative group:
