Hey guys, I have one Exchange server running 2003 on 2003 32bit server. My exchange software is on its way out. I would like to install Exchange 2007 on this same box. I know I have to run Server 2003 64bit so the system needs to be restored. I am looking for the best method for doing this. The info store is only 10 gig so putting all the mail into PST files IS an option and starting over but I would like to view all options. Thanks for the help

Well, you need to migrate to another box whether that may be a physical box or even a non-supported VM. Once that's done, migrate mailboxes to a VM and then go through all the steps to remove Exchange 2003 from the organization. After that's done, format the box, install 2003 x64, install Exchange 2007, move mailboxes from the temp physical box or temp VM, then go through the steps to remove the temp Exchange system. You'll have to make sure that clients can contact Exchange 2003 after mailboxes are moved over to temp to ensure their profiles get updated. Then you can decomission 2003. The same goes for when you go from the temp Exchange 2007 to the normal 2007 box. This of course isn't required if you have Outlook 2007 and the clients are either domain-joined or have the Autodiscover service configured properly.
