I am a fully licensed 5.5 owner, and inherited a system that was originally a BackOffice server (w/ Exchange 4.0) and then upgraded to Exchange 5.5.
I am in the process of moving the Exchange server from one server to another, using a supported Microsoft solution.
The problem is, I need to install a fresh copy of Exchange 5.5 on my new server, but of course, the upgrade CD is yelling that there isn't a version on the new server that is upgradeable.
Is there a way I can trick the upgrade process to think there is an existing version of Exchange 4.0 on the new server? It must be checking for registry settings, files, or both.
Can anyone advise?
Thanks,
Christian

From the deep dark recesses of my mind......
I seem to remember something like installing the Exchange 4.0 online help or the admin program and then the upgrade will work.
Sorry I can't remember exactly.
