Hi

I am preparing an upgrade of Exchange 2K up to version 2003. While I successfully did it several times before on a clean servers where Exchange was the only application running, this server in addition to Exchange has GFI Mail Essentials 10.1, Mail Security 8.1 and Faxmaker 10.0 installed. Are there any precautions to be followed for successfull upgrade?

DC is installed on a separate computer. Application and System logs on Exchange server are clear from any warnings and errors.

During preparations I had only 2 errors which should not really complicate the situation.

Dcdiag error:
"Starting test: systemlog
An Error Event occured. EventID: 0x8000003E
Time Generated: 02/09/2005 10:53:13
(Event String could not be retrieved)"
- this is W32time error on the DC, it is not get syncronised with external time source. Although this error never did bad things in my upgrade experience may be someone of you can have relevant info.

Netdiag error:
"LDAP test. . . . . . . . . . . . . : Passed
[WARNING] Failed to query SPN registration on DC 'dc.domain'."
- Can anyone comment this? SPN stands for security principal name? What does SPN have to do with LDAP?

Everything else was passed successfully.

Although I can search info on these minor errors, my major point of concern if upgrade can go well with GFI applications. Did anyone undertake this kind of upgrade?

Thanks!

Hello

I did an upgrade from E2K to E2K3 with GFI mail essentials and security. GFI support sugested to uninstall both products (leave the folders in GFI folder in Program Files, they contain the settings) do the upgrade and reinstall the GFI products.
I used this method and it worked fine, I don't know about Faxmaker.
Maybe you can consult GFI Support

Regards

Herman
