Is there anyone who knows a good website or a book that explains/shows upgrading Ex5.5 on NT4 to Exch2003 on Win2003?

Situation will be something like this....

2 NT4 domain, say one is AA and the other is BB.
Each Exch5.5 on both domain sharing GAL via site connecter.

Exch5.5 on BB does not have MS Internet Mail Service. It just forwards to Exch5.5 on AA.
So AA does bridging.

PingMonster,

they 5.5 upgrade to 2003 needs to have Exchange 2000 in the middle orJopin the org and use move mailbox and decom the old 5.5 server

Hi.1. You have two option to migrate, Join your new Exchange 2003 to your existing 5.5 and the move(in this method you need ADC,the version that comes with Exchange 2003)the mailboxes.
2. You can use Exmerge to extract the Mailboxes to PST files then Merge the PST to a new Exchange Server.

Optional (If you want to Reestructurate(

You ca use the Migration Wizard...i this method the Organization of Exchange must be diffent, the 2 servers can be in the same Active Directory but with diferent Exchange Organizations.

how do you use exmerge?

Do you have to go from exchange 5.5 to exchange 2000 and then upto 2003 or can you go directly from 5.5 to 2003

also if you were running a pure NT4 domain
no 2000 servers or active directory and you setup a new 2003 server with win2k3 and exchange2k3
bearing in mind that the 2k3 server has been set to full windows 2003 server mode (not mixed mode)
with a new active directory, no users apart from the administrator user account on the machine
how do you get all the mail files out and usernames out of exchange 5.5 and NT4 ?

Hi. This is the Idea:

You can Install Windows 2003 (Dcpromo), then Exchange 2003 (Clean Instalation) then you can use ADMT v2.0 to copy your Accounts from N.T, Now you have your AD on Windows 2003 Populated with the OLD accounts,at this Point you can use Migration Wizard fron Exchange 2003 to Move the Mailboxes to the NEW Server or you can Run Exmerge to Connect to the Source Server an Extract the Mailboxes to PSTs, the you can Merge the PSTs to the Mailbox Store in the New Server.

Exmerge Must Installed in the bin Folder on a Windows 2003 or Windows 2000 Machine, if you dont want to Install Exchange, just install the Systrem Administrator Console of Exchange and the copy the Exmerge.exe and the .ini to the BIN folder, Run from here.

Abraham,

be sure to mention with exmerge you have to rehome the client which dosent scale to large enviornments

With move mailbox you get a MAPI redirect fot the clients
