Hi, I was running the Trial version of Exchange Server Standard 2003 and it expired, so I bought the full standard version. I tried installing the full version and chose the reinstall option, but as it was installing it said the Messaging Service could not be started in a timely manner. I thought this would mean that it failed, but when I rebooted the machine, exchange is working again and I can send and receive mail. Is there anyway to check and make sure the trial version is no longer running?
Thanks for any help, Kyle

If it's been up an hour or more then it's likely to be running as the retail release. Expired apps shut down after they've been up a while.

Yea it shut down after an hour or so, so then I rebooted and did the reinstall again. This time there were no errors and it said it was succesfully installed, but is the only way I can tell if it worked is if it shuts down in an hour or so?
Thanks for the help, Kyle

Hi, Along the same theme of this message I installed exchange on the trial version (enterprise edition) and now want to switch to a retail version (standard edition). In my research I found I can't go "down" to a standard edition from enterprise. Can anyone confirm this? I read Microsoft's article "How to move Exchange 2003 to new hardware and keep the same server name" which states "To move Exchange 2003 to a new computer and to keep the same server name, the new computer must have the same operating system installed that the original computer had." What I would like to know is are they referring to the edition or mearly the version?
Any information is appreciated.
Damian
