I know it is not officially supported by MS, but I want to upgrade my one and only server from the Exchange 2003 beta to the current version. I have purchase the software and I am ready to go.

I tried to run SETUP from the CD and it won't let me reinstall or change since it is not the same version.

What is the best method for to upgrade my server?

Should I uninstall the beta then reinstall the new version? Is keeping my data as simple as copying my priv and public databases and remounting them with the new server?

Or, is there a secret upgrade path that I can follow?

Any "gotchas" I need to be aware of?

Thanks!

Hi osu,

It's not officially supported to upgrade directly from Exchange 2003 BETA to RTM (or RC1 for that matter), But I did do a few upgrades to RTM myself and never had any problems with those servers.

As far as I remember you need to upgrade to RC1 (release candidate 1), before you can upgrade to RTM.

If I can't find RC1 to install, what is my second option to upgrade without losing my settings and data?

If you don't already have it, you can't get it anymore.

To upgrade to Exchange 2003 RTM you could use the "swing method" where you present an extra Exchange server to your Exchange organzation, migrate all data to it, then reinstall the old server and move everything back again.

To see more information on the "swing method" check:
264879 - Upgrading to Exchange 2000 Server by using the swing upgrade method

You could also use the move server method:
