My organization runs Exch 2000 Enterprise on Windows 2000. We have purchased Exchange 2003 Standard Edition (Full Product) because we don't need the Enterprise Edition anymore.

What is the best way to move to Exchange 2003?

I have tried to upgrade 00 Enterprise to 03 Standard and it won't let you.

Can a full backup of Exch 2000 be restored onto Exch 2003?

Help...

If you have Exchange 2000 with SP3 you can do a restore of the database to Exchange 2003. However it involves quite a bit of risk if youŠre planning on using the same hardware. If the restore fails you might end up with a database you canŠt restore.
The best thing to do is to install Exchange 2003 on a new machine in the same domain and simply move the mailboxes and public folders and then remove the old server.

If you want to use the old hardware you can do a "swing upgrade" were you move the mailboxes to a temporary Exchange server, reinstall the old hardware and move the mailboxes back to it.
