I have a strange issue that I haven't been able to resolve, and hope someone can tell me where to look.

One of my user accounts suddenly stopped receiving mail from either POP3 or IMAP, each attempt returns an incorrect password. The password is correct because I can connect via OWA, and still send through authenticated SMTP. This is the only account having this issue, as all other users are connecting just fine via POP3 and IMAP, some SSL and others not.

As you can see this is a very odd issue. I am very stuck, and am looking for some suggestions on troubleshooting this. I would prefer not to remove and recreate this account, but will if required. Any thoughts?

Please forgive me if I am stating the obvious firt thought.. have you reset the password? Can they log into other network locations with the password in AD? I would change it in the POP3 client and reset it to the same in AD first. I am assuming that the POP3 server is on a Domain?

Those were my first thoughts as well, but unfortunately it didn't help. Both POP3 server and account are in AD. The password has been reset (multiple times), and can successfully log into other network resources, including OWA.

Try recreating the account from a different POP client maybe even on a different machine.  I can't help but think the client has a typo or something. Is there an error code? a number?

Sounds very much like a client side issue.
What have you done to rule out the client submitting a bad password?
If all you did is ask the user, I would assume a client side issue.

Thanks for the suggestions, it turned out to be client side after all. I don't know what happened, but he was suddenly unable to authenticate from his MacBook, iPhone, or Outlook Express. It's almost like a sync error corrupted the configuration on each client. Once I removed and re-added the imap account on each machine it started working again.
