I have a user that Outlook is saying his mailbox is over the limit but the in reality he is well under the limit. Outlook non-cached. Exchange 2007 Outlook 2003 and 2007 Outlook reports his mailbox at 100Mb which is exactly what Exchange 2007 is seeing but, the limit is set to 6 Gigs. I've removed the limit and changed it's value with no luck... Please help.. Rob

Actually now, it's back, except for a different user. He has a large mailbox but he is set to unlimited. I restarted the SA service without any luck. Thanks R

If you make any changes on mailboxes in E2k7 (or even in legacy servers), it wont come into affect ASAP. There is a mailbox cache which gets changed every 2 hrs. So, if you want to enforce any change done ASAP - restart IS service. P.S- Have you run Get-MailboxStatistics to verify what the actual mailbox size is ?

Ok, I thought it was immediate. Up to 2 hours??? That seems like a lot. But a restart of the Information Store will bring reset it immediately at the cost of taking everyone offline... Anyway, It has been corrected. He can now send. Hmmm. Thanks R

Changes to mailbox settings take up to two hours to take effect because of the way Exchange caches those settings. It has been like that since Exchange 5.5. While you can reduce the time it is not recommended as it will have an impact on the performance of the server. I once saw it reduced to 30 minutes and the domain controllers and Exchange servers were practically dead. I had to disable Exchange services remotely, change the value and then restart them to get things going again. Simon.
