Sorry to start a new topic but when I try to use your search tool it errors out. So if this has been answered before I apologize.
I'm loading Exch2k on a full win2k domain with only one 5.5 server. I'm intending to load the new server, migrate my users and then remove the 5.5. server.
A little backround into my situation -- This upgrade was attempted unsuccessfully by my predessor. So there are some problems with my forest to start.
I have run Domain prep on my DC and forest prep on my Exch2k server. When I run forest prep on my DC it gives me an error ID: c1037ae6 which windows points out as either being an unreadable disk or that my LDAP cache is too small. I've done both fixes recomended for these and I get the same error. But, when I run forestprep on my Exch2k server it runs fine.
Moving on, I start my Exchange 2000 install and I get to where I have to choose what user to install as, the one with Exch 5.5. rights. The field to pick a user is greyed out. I cannot put in any info for that field. Just a password. What can I do to correct this? Thanks!
*Edit* Just realized I posted this in the 2003 forum... oops! Sorry about that! [ April 25, 2005, 06:05 PM: Message edited by: Catalyst ]

Back in the Exchange 5.5 days you typically created an Exchange Service account for use with Exchange services etc., is it because you can't remember the password of this account or?

Nope, I'm pretty sure I'm using the correct user. I did the upgrade on a testbed and when it came time to choose what user to pick for the intstall I was able to put in username and domain info into the appropriate fields. Now on my live network those fields are greyed out. So I cannot pick the correct user to use. I can't pick any user to use! I've tried logging in as that user, as the local admin and as a domain admin with the same result.
I think it might have to do with forest prep failing out on my DC. It'll run on my exch2k server but not my domain controler.
Thanks for replying so quickly! I'm really in a bind here and I really appreciate it! [ April 25, 2005, 06:19 PM: Message edited by: Catalyst ]

Not really, I had the IRPStackSize error earlier today but I fixed that. I'm looking at the error logs for the domain controler now... I figure that my problem stems from forestprep not running correctly on the dc. There's nothing of interest really... and nothing who's timing coresponds with any of my install attempts.

What account are you installing exchange 2000 with? Is it an AD adminstrator account that has Schema Admin rights?
