Ok the scenario is as follow :- (1) 2 separate domains. 1 AD and one NT4 domain but with trust relationship established (2) In the AD I installed a Exchange 2003 in a Windows 2003 server and the NT4 domain have an existing Exchange 5.5 (3) Everything went on smoothly and my installation of the Exchange 2003 is fresh installation. No co-exist no upgrade..plain vanilla new server. (4) Migrated users from NT4.0 to the new AD domain using ADMT and retain the SID (5) Use ExMerge in the Exchange server to transfer the old mails to the new Exchange 2003
Everything went out fine but when I power down the Exchange 5.5 or stop the exchange service or remove the trust between the 2 domains, some not all users outlook will hang or too slow to access. Now I need to remove the old Exchange 5.5 but I can't because of this reason.
I read, go through and checked documents on how to remove first exchange, last exchange, 2 exchange on diff sites, ADC, Replication or assigning new role but fruitless. Even to the extend that I ran ADSIEDT and try to search for my old exchange server but nothing found
I can't find any entry in my Exchange2003 that indicates the old Exchange5.5. Someone care to share how I can resolve this issue?

Why didn't you just move mailbox to the new server. Is the 2003 server in a different org? Within Exchange System Manager, right click the Org Name, select delegate control and ensure the account your logged in with is an exchange full administrator.

Why didn't you just move mailbox to the new server. Is the 2003 server in a different org? Within Exchange System Manager, right click the Org Name, select delegate control and ensure the account your logged in with is an exchange full administrator. I was given a tight deadline and they don't want to have downtime for the email hence the need to use Exmerge. Nop basically the 2 servers are in the same organisation. Exchange 5.5 was in a very old hardware so no point upgrading from there. It's in difference domain though. In the Exchange System Manager I only see the Exchange 2003. Nothing on Exchange 5.5 and vice versa. In the Delegate Control option, only my new domain Administrator account is there. Nothing from the old domain.
My gut feels tells me that it's something to do with the SIDHistory. When I go to the old Exchange 5.5, I noticed that the mailboxes access rights are all from the new domain. I replaced it back with the old account but still faces the same problem.

so the mailboxes on the 5.5 server are still there and on the new server? Are the users logging into active directory now or still the NT domain? You wont find the 5.5 server in AD, you can connect to the 2003 server with the 5.5 admin program and you'll connect to the SRS, you can delete the old server that way. Were you able to migrate all your public folders as well. If all that fails try and recreate the profile on one of the outlooks and see if that fixes it.

Yup mailboxes exist in both server. The users are logging into the new domain using AD. The NT domain is no longer in use but still running as the old 5.5 is also a domain controller. Sorry don't really understand on the part about connecting and deleting the SRS. Care to explain more? Thanks

On the exchange 2003 server installation you have the option to install the exchange 5.5 tools. Either use that or just use the old servers 5.5 Administrator program, and where you can choose what server to connect to, choose the 2003 server. You will connect to the SRS (site replication service) which is like the 5.5 Dir so 2003 can communicate with 5.5. In there you might still be seeing the 5.5 server, so in turn you will see it in the 2003 system administrator. Delete it from the SRS if everything is moved off of it. You are using SMTP for email right, not the IMC right.

Also make sure all the public folders do not refer back to the 5.5 server at all.

Neither of it works. If I were to use 2003 and install the exchange 5.5 admin tools, when I want to connect to the old 5.5 with the 5.5 tools from 2003 I got DS_E_INSUFFICIENT_ACCESS_RIGHTS and if I use 5.5 Exchange Admin to try to connect to 2003 I will get DS_E_COMMUNICATIONS_PROBLEM. This might be because I am login into the old domain in 5.5.
I can't see any site replication service and I have checked the OAB, scehdule and those things but nothing pointing to my old 5.5. I have moved all the public folders across to the new 2003 server. Yes am using the SMTP

All the public folders in the new 2003 is pointing to itself and when I did a check on the user using ADSIEDT, it's actually pointing to the new Exchange 2003 and domin is to the new domain

You've moved them but within the properties of the public folders do they still have replica's on the exchange 5.5 server? If you run the 2003 install again, go to the bottom of the components list and install the exchange 5.5 tools, then start the 5.5 administrator on the 2003 server and connect to the 2003 server. If your getting errors with that, then see if the srs service is running.

Nop.. the public folder got no replica's at all.I have checked that. In fact I have the exchange 5.5 tools installed in the 2003. SRS is in running state but I got a warning log in Application in the Event Viewer. Source is MSEXchangeSRS and Event ID is 1400. It was saying the SRS could not initialize it's Exchange database (EDB) and returned error 1. The SRS will wait in a semi-running state so the database can be restored from backup and the SRS can mount it and after about a minute it became an Error type and EventID is 1002 saying that unrecovereable error, the SRS service can't continue

looks like your SRS is corrupted. I think you'd have to either restore it or recreate it.

Or I'm sure at this point you could probably delete it from exchange system manager and be done with 5.5, then delete the ADC.

Thanks Scotty again for the time and patience. Am just curious is it a must to have SRS running since I am not going to replicate anything over and am running it as 2 separate exchange in 2 separate networks. Care to advise? Thanks
The other thing is that there is nothing in my ADC.

If you removed the ADC then thats probably why the SRS is not working
The config CA tells active directory of the 5.5 servers. If you are removing exchange 5.5 now you can remove the SRS unless you have other 5.5 servers still.

Initially I didn't install ADC at all. It was after I came across soem articles saying that I need to that's why I install it. Actually I don't have any other 5.5 running. There is only one.
That's the thing I am facing now. I installed 2003 as a fresh install and just use ADMT to port the user profiles over and uses ExMerge to download the pst from the 5.5 and put it into the 2003. The thing I don't understand is why would some users outlook hang when I shut down the 5.5 or the exchange services. It shouldn't be happening

Have you tried creating a new profile for those users at all?

You mean creating new profiles in the new 2003? Am afraid I can't as there are too many users.. coming to 200 of them. The other thing that I think might cause the problem is the email address. I actually included the old email address in the new account. Meaning the primary email is the 2003 and the secondary is 5.5.
It's just a gut feel cos I don't think it actually because of this. My gut feels still tells me that I need to remove off the SIDHistory. Thanks again for ur time
