I'll try and explain what we've done and the problem. Sorry its an essay!

We have a server with Windows 2000 Server installed, and Exchange 2000 Enterprise. Active Directory is setup in Native mode, as is Exchange. Using recipient policies (SMTP mapping) we have setup multiple domains with exchange. Active Directory is setup using Organisation Units (OU's) and sub Organisation Units. This allows for users to be setup up for each domain in separate organisational units. As you'd expect each domain represents a different client and as such each one will want email addresses such as webmaster@, sales@ and info@ etc. The entire system seems to be happy with this system and has been created using the Microsoft Technical Papers on TechNET. So in theory all should be fine. After using MBCONN we discover that all mailboxes a linked to users. No mail box is orphaned or linked to my multiple users. Exchange excepts emails from an external source and delivers them to the correct mailbox. SMTP is setup on a user access basis and not anonymous, and happily permits each user to send mail (as long as outlook is setup correctly). All is happy except for one very annoying issue. Company 1 can be setup with company1.com and all users can happily use the system without problems. Company 2 can be setup with company2.co.uk and all users with user names not present in any other organisational unit work happily. Problems is users such as webmaster@company2.co.uk are informed that their user name and password are not correct and cannot be connected to the facility requested. When we look on Exchange under the Mailbox Store we discover the system for some strange reason is trying to log the user onto the webmaster@company1.com mailbox and not webmaster@company2.co.uk mailbox. When we look under the MBX directory there are multiple mailboxes called webmaster. On re-inspection of the Mailbox Store we discover that exchange determines which mailbox is which with differing cn= commands. And so mailboxes are listed with 'Full Mailbox Directory Name' of cn=webmaster, cn=webmaster73219645 and cn=webmaster36571259 etc. This property is created by exchange when it creates the mailbox. After close inspection using ADSI we discover this attribute is stored under legacyExchangeDN. SO in theory everything should work ... So I must have missed an entry somewhere ... ?? Or setup something wrong generally.

Please feel free to ask any questions.

Steve
