I have a user where the Outlook 2002 client locks up whenever he attempts to open the root of his mailbox folder tree or otherwise known as the Outlook Today.

I initially thougth the issue was his Outlook but have now logged into his account on another workstation and have the same issue.

Last night I dismounted the message store and defragged with eseutil /d. This did not help either.

Has anyone else run into this issue? What ideas to fix this issue before I export the users account and delete then import again?

Try connecting to the mailbox using OWA.
How long did you wait for Outlook to open?
Check the ESM to see how large this mailbox is, and more importantly, how many items are in it.
If you have another Mailbox Store available, you may want to attempt to move it.
