Hello,

We recently migrated from Exchange 2003 to 2007. All went relatively well.

We have added three new users since the migration. These users have no issues accessing Exchange (OWA and using Outlook).

We are however unable to see their calendars. Everyone has their calendars shared yet whenever we schedule meetings, their availability shows up as unavailable. When we try to create a Meeting Request thru OWA, we can see their availability. When we try to do it thru Outlook 2007, we don't see their availability. In addition to this, the users are not in the GAL.

If I turn off Cached Exchange Mode in Outlook, then I can see their calendar availability. This is the same in Outlook 2003 and 2007.

I'm not certain where to go from here. Any assistance would be really really appreciated.

Thanks a bunch.

As far as the GAL it takes up to 15 hours to show up. The only way to force it causes a reboot

Hi there ... Thanks for replying. It's been a few weeks since they were added (7 to be exact). The server has been rebooted several times. Just can't figure this out one!

If these users are not showing up in GAL, basically their showinAddressBook attribute isn't populated with the DN of your GAL - this wont take much time to figure out.

However, what raises eye brows is what you mentioned.

Seems, to me as a problem with offline address book.

Try running Exchange Best Practice Analyzer tool (health check mode), check for any errors for OAB - please rebuild OAB, check for errors in application logs.
If you don't find any

Okay ....

I think I know what's happening but I'm not certain if that it or not. A little bit of history. We had an Exchange 2003 server running. We decided to upgrade to Exchange 2007. When we upgraded, we installed a brand new server as the Exchange 2003 Server was not 64-bit. I believe it might be a conversion issue.

When I open the Exchange Management Console and select Organization Configuration, followed by Mailbox and Right-click on All Users from the Address Lists tab and select Edit, I get the following error:

"The specified address list could not be edited. Address lists created by using legacy versions of Microsoft Exchange must be upgraded by using the ForceUpgrade parameter of the Set-AddressList cmdlet.

After running the Best Practice Analyzer tool, there are two critical errors:

"The Exchange schema extensions are from an unknown version. Schema version detected is 11116"

"Active Directory domain 'ADMIN' has an unrecognized Exchange signature. Current DomainPrep version: 11221."

"The 'Services' string type value located in 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Setup\Services' registry key is missing or inaccessible."

I had to install the .NET Framework 1.1 on the Server to run the tool Since then, I cannot get to Exchange using OWA.

Sigh!!! It's going to be a long day. Any words of wisdom would really be appreciated as I'm in way over my head. I just know enough to be dangerous.

Update ...

I have Updated all of the Address Lists and rebuilt the OAB (I think .. I right-clicked on the Offline Address Book in the EMC and selected Update. I have also rebooted the Exchange Server. I also fixed the Service Unavailable issue with OWA (I had to re-install ASP.NET 2.0).

I confirm that all Exchange Mailboxes are now upgraded by running the following command:
Get-AddressList | Format-List Name,*RecipientFilter*,ExchangeVersion

I can see the calendars for the accounts we're having trouble with, however they still do not show up in the GAL and I still cannot see their availability when trying to create a meeting in Outlook using the schedule assistant.

I deleted the OAB and re-created a new one. Now, in Outlook when I select Tools -> Send / Receive -> Download Address Book I get the following error:

"The operation failed. An object could not be found".

For your OAB, make sure Web Distribution is enabled.  Do the following after you ensure it is enabled:
Get-OfflineAddressBook | Update-OfflineAddressBook

Wait a few minutes and then:
On your CAS, restart your File Distribution Service and/or run the following command:
Update-FileDistributionService

You'll also want to make sure your service URLs are set up due to Outlook 2007 utilizing CAS via IIS for these services instead of  Public Folders.  Granted you can force your Outlook 2007 client to use public folders, this would be a bandaid and not a fix and you should get your setup working as it's supposed to be.

You can check out my post here to see how to get these service URLs configured:

Elan,

That did the trick. I can now see the users in the GAL and can also see their schedules in the Scheduling Assistant.

Thanks for your recommendations.
