Ok, we acquired a company and took authority over their domains and set them up in our Exchange environment.  The environment has an Exchange 2003 bridgehead (fully patched) with an Exchange 2007 mailbox server (patched up to SP1RU2).  We noticed that the users on the newly added domains did not receive NDRs after they sent an email to a misspelled address.  After adding our primary domain as an SMTP address for each user then the users were able to receive NDRs.  Does anybody know why this would occur?  If possible we would like for the acquired domains to have autonomy and not be paired with the primary domain.  Please advise if you require more information to make an educated guess.

Your setup uses SMTP name space sharing, servers will not generate NDRs for users over which it is not authoritative, check the RUS and see if it is authoritative, changing it will solve the problem.
