We presently run Exchange 2000 and have recently found that users can open up new email message from within Outlook and then send it as if from someone else but clicking the "insert" menu and adding the "from" field then adding any address they like and sending it. Can anyone shed any light on this and please suggest a solution.

Sounds like you've got a permissions problem.

Your domain 'Authenticated Users' group has 'Send As' permissions on the Exchange server object.

Right-click on the server object, select Properties, Security tab. In the Group or user name list select 'Authenticated Users' and remove 'Send As' permission. In fact, 'Authenticated Users' should only have 'Read Properties' right on the server object.
