Does anyone have any information on how Colleges / Universities usually go about setting up there email servers?

Any tips for using Exchange Servers for students. Small private college is looking for a solution, and we are planning on implementing Exchange;however, I have these questions in the back of my mind about how it is usually implemented and if there is any advice out there.
Thanks. rlh

I have performed a number of E2K installs for schools and have always come across the same issues.

1. Have two seperate Windows 2000 OU's, one for students and one for staff, this will make life easier if you plan to use Windows 2000 Group Policies to lock down what they can and cannot do.

2. Have a good solid email usage policy written, for staff and students, this should be given to the staff and the students to review and sign, this policy should clearly lay down what is acceptable use and what is not acceptable, also make sure you have provisions in place to deal with non-compliance of the policy.

3. If you are running Exchange 2000 Enterprise, consider have seperate Storage Groups for the students and staff.

4. Are you going to allow the students to send and receive external email?

The bottom line is really how do you want to control your messaging system.

Hope this gives you some food for thought.
