Hi,

We need to provide a "closed" email system to our CLIENTS to communicate about (subsets) of their PROJECTS. Some USERS (usually our employees, but not always -- government auditers might fall into this class) will have access to PROJECTS across CLIENTS.

In our environment, security and archival requirements are federally mandated. All information for a PROJECT must be archived separately. At no point can information from any PROJECT be even remotely aware that another PROJECT exists -- even if the two are for the same CLIENT. But we'd like to give users a single access point for messaging (maybe each PROJECT in its own mailbox folder).

For our next s/w release I've suggested just using Exchange with a web client over SSL. Our network/Exchange guy says we can't meet the above criteria with Exchange. We couldn't reasonably manage access across all the PROJECTs which would need to be in their own self-contained environment.

One programmer on the team says it can be done by using multiple post offices.

I know jack about Exhange to contribute to the discussion except to say we can't possibly help our customers by re-writing a complete mail system when there are so many on the market.

I suspect that LDAP/AD and well-designed Exchange management should be able to support our requirements.

Does anyone in the forum have any suggestions, advice, comments about the design idea?

Thanks
