Are there any issues with using a clustered exchange 2003 environment with the internet mail?
After migration I am left with a standalone Exch 2003 which I am trying to power down. I had moved my Internet Mail Services to that server when I decommissioned the last exch 5.5 server. I now need to move internet mail to the clustered environment. I attempted it but it didn't work. I noticed that the firewall was showing the IP address of the primary exchange node, in the cluster, trying to get out. That is not the IP address that I allowed. I allowed the exchange clustered mail IP address. I changed the bridgehead from the standalone server to the clustered mail server name. Should I be able to use the clustered exchange for internet email? Any gotchas?

Well how sure are you that the following scenario will function.

You have an A/P cluster with SMTP Resource configured to receive Internet Mails.

Q1. If you move the resource from A to P, how long will it take ? Say it takes 900 seconds to failover in the 900 seconds where will your SMTP mails be collected ?

Q2. What are the dependencies ?

I dont think it is necessary to cluster the bridgeheads, on the contorary you can proceed with the following.

1. single Exchange 2003 member server that is the bridge head and that acts as the collctor.

2. 2 Servers that can be NLB'ed (load balanced) and marked as the Bridgeheads for your organization to collect emails. You have redundancy this way !

I currently am running this way "single Exchange 2003 member server that is the bridge head and that acts as the collector". I don't want to if I can avoid it. Can I collect the internet mail on my cluster? If so, Do I need to create a resource for it?
