We are moving our priv and public stores off of one SAN to a new SAN next weekend. I was going to do a regular file copy to a temp location (with Exchange shut down), remove the old drives, create the new drives, and then copy the databases back to the new SAN from the temp location.

I was told there is a utility which allows you to copy Exchange databases extremely fast. I can not find any info on this. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

The utility is called esefile.

I do not see this included with Exchange 2003 but do see it with Exchange 2000.

Any reason for this?

Use Exchange 2003 Eseutil.exe instead, all functions included in Esefile.exe was moved into Eseutil.exe.

Thank you Hank.

Is it just as fast? Esefile moved data fairly quickly.

And can we run multiple copies of eseutil at once? This was a limitation of esefile.

Yes just as fast, you should really test it out in your test lab to get some experience before starting to use it in production environments.

No I wondered a bit about that name too, at least it started with H [Big Grin]

Good luck.
