What account are you using for Backup Exec ?
Are you using the domain admin account ? or do you create a new account for Backup Exec ?
If you created a new account , you will need to give it permissions
Try using the domain admin account and see if the problem remains

Hi Miffanwee,

According to Veritas you need to add your backup account to the Domain Admin group, the Exchange Admin group and you must mail enable the account and make sure that it is visible in the GAL.  After I did this I was able to access the mailboxes.

Here's a link to the post that I found this info in, it's in the first reply by priya khire.

Hope his helps.

Hi,

Please excuse my ignorance, but "visible in the GAL" ????
What does this mean?

The ID is already in the Domain & Exchange Admin group.

There is a mail box attached to it as well, but "GAL" not sure about.

Thanks for your help.

GAL - Global Address List

In Active Directory Users and Computers go to the properties of the backup account you are using.  Select the Exchange Advanced tab and make sure that the Hide group from Exchange address lists box is not checked.

I was hoping you werent going to say that.

Do you mean that you want this address to show up so that users could effectively send an email to it?

That seems a bit odd, u know wot users are like, they will ask who this strange user is?!!

Have you guys seen this?
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/266075.htm
there are some more good links on the bottom of this page
Also if I am not mistaken 9.1 needs to be patched to a 9.2, there are many fixes as far a I remember
Giving more rights to a service account as bad as not giving sufficient right.

Cheers

Unfortunately Veritas requires that the backup account be visible in the address list, from what I've gathered it is required for the account to be able to browse the mailboxes.

Quote

VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) requires a mailbox to be associated with the Backup Exec service account for the purpose of protecting Microsoft Exchange at the mailbox level. This mailbox cannot be hidden. If the mailbox that Backup Exec is configured to log in with is hidden from the address book, the backup job will not be able to attach to the Exchange Server when it runs. Therefore, the mailbox needs to be made available to the Global Address List (GAL).
