Using Exchange 2000.Everyone in the domain can open other users folders when using outlook. How do I adjust the permission so a user can't look at other users mailbox? I looked on the server at the system manager in the mailbox store but still cannot figure out exactly what permissions I need to adjust. Please help....thanks

In a typical W2K and exchange 2k environment, As far as I know, a user has to log on to the domain with his user name and password to view his/her email. If I log on with John, I cannot user outlook and view Jim's email, it will say permission is denied.

I am able to go to file>open other users folder and open whichever mailbox I want to.I know it is a permissions issue but I am just not sure how to modify them.We had this issue before and a previous coworker was able to correct the problem.

Hi Lynda solved our problem. Started Exchange System Manager, clicked on Servers, clicked Mail, right-click Mailbox Store(xxxx), click properties, click Security tab.
Removed Authenticated Users and Everyone entries (the Everyone entry was inserted (inherited) by us to allow smooth transition from unsecure workgroup to domain configuration).
Now access to Other Users Folders (Inbox, calendar etc) is controlled via Permissions set in the users Outlook client. regards Stuart [ August 26, 2005, 05:10 AM: Message edited by: Stuart G ]
