Hi all,

I am trying to find a way to view our public folders offline. We currently share a large amount of contacts through the use of public folders; however when people travel they do not have access to the public folders and thus do not have access to the contacts. Even though we have used VPN's to allow users to connect to the server and view the public folder contacts they also would like to be able to view the contacts while not being plugged into the network.

Any comments or suggestions as to how I would get this to work would be really appreciated.

the best way to share contacts if one is travelling is to create a shared mailbox. cached mode or offline access in outlook should be able to do the work for you.

however you cannot access public folders in offline mode.

Not Strictly true

If you place the public folder in your public folder favourites folder and tell it to sync (ALT/CTRL/S i outlook) it will be available offline and will sync on connection via VPN or lan connection

Richard,

i would be interested to know the public folder offline sync. please write down the steps what to do next after selecting a folder in favourites and press ctrl+ALt+S.

Sure

As you know the alt/ctrl/s brings up the accounts box, go to the online account and edit it. in there are the folders that are syncronised when offline. If you go down to the bottom you will see that the only public folder area that is allowed to be synced is in your favs. If you have previously dragged (copy) a public folder in to here you can tick it for syncronisation. If you then exit out and sync (F9) When you next go offline you can browse to your favs public folder and there will be a copy of the desired public folder.

Obviously this is only upto date at the last resync.
