I have purchased Symantec Enterprise Version 8.6.

It came with 2 CD's. One says Virus Protection for Gateways and other says Virus Protection for Mail Servers.

After reading the manual I assume Virus Protection for Gateways is the one I need to isntall on my Exchange Server 2003. When I run the setup it says, " Service Pack6a or greater is needed for Installtion of Symantec AntiVirus for SMTP Gateway 3.1.0.

Any ideas guys, my Windows 2003 is up to date. Then why it asks for SP6a or greater.

Please advice.

I believe you are supposed to use the Virus Protection for Mail Servers on the exchange server itself

Yea, I agree. I think the "Virus for MAIL SERVER" was a good hint.

Run Symantec with Trend Micro's ScanMAIL as well. You'll have a second level of protection that scans each individual email and its attachment as it comes in. The two work great together.

Thanks Guys.

I installed the Mail Security for Exchange Server and it is running well and catching viruses and spam.

Though I noticed that it generates a warning error in the Event Viewer saying:

A PROCESS SERVING APPLICATION POOL "SMSMSEAPPLICATIONPOOL" TERMINTATED UNEXPECTDELY. PROCESS ID WAS 5224.

Any ideas guys?
