The strangest thing just happened, and I really have no idea what could have caused it, so I thank you all in advance for your assistance. I have three exchange servers (5.5/SP4 -- NT4.0/SP6a) and up until this week I did not have any "tombstoned objects". However, while browsing through the GAL, I noticed a bunch of names that I didn't recognize. Upon further investigation I found 10 accounts (tombstoned objects) that used to exist on an exchange server that has not been in existence for three years. This server is sitting in my server room collecting dust, and has not been turned on recently at all. I know how to get rid of the tombstoned objects, that's not my concern, what my problem is, how did these objects can back in my organization? I am totally confused, and would appreciate your advice.

Was the old server deleted from the Exchange site when it was decommissioned ?

Unfortunately, I've only been here a little over a year and the people who administered the email servers before me were not too concerned with doing things the "proper way", just the quickest, and/or the easiest way. So while the server was probably decomissioned, I still can see vestiges of the old server(s). Actually, to clarify, I should say that I'm dealing with tombstoned objects from two different old email servers. We have a division in Houston. Originally it had an email server called for example, Houston1. Then that died, and was swapped out with for example, houston2. That also died, and now we have a new server, (been there about 2 years) called, for example, houston3. Some of the tombstoned accounts were from houston1 (ie their smtp address pointed to houston1) and some were from houston2, so I have a mix. What I mean by saying I see vestiges of the old servers, I see system folders that are from the old servers. Please let me know if you need additional information.
