I am a total newbie to MS Exchange server.
I have created numerous ASP/Access web based applications before. You know, displaying information stored in a database on a web page with ASP. Well, I was approached today to do the same thing using MS Exchange. The boss would like to see an online directory that we can search for employees phone numbers, departments, email addresses, etc. Is there a way to do this? ANY, and I mean ANY information is appreciated.

We know that we can export the information, but he wants it to be "live". This is so we will not have to update 2 databases.

How about LDAP searches? If you are running Exchange 5.5, you can access the Exchange Directory via LDAP. The information that you mentioned, employees phone numbers, departments, etc., can be entered into the properties of the users mailboxes.
If you are running Exchange 2000, then this info can be in the AD.
Hope this helps.

Of course, if you're running an Exchange, you already have a live, searchable directory. Exchange 2000 uses AD is its directory store. If you have an AD-enabled OS (such as Windows 2000), you can simply go to Start > Search > For People (or Start > Run > type ldap://<domaincontroller>) and type in their name.
Of course, the appropriate properties need to be filled in for the user, but it works great. [ May 16, 2003, 07:12 PM: Message edited by: atguilmette ]
