We want to implement an archiving solution that will allow us to hold onto mail for a predetermined period of time and will allow the owner of the message to access it at anytime they wish via a folder within Outlook. The objective is to shrink the size of mailboxes on the server, without placing PST files on the users local computer.
My manager came across the Microsoft Exchange Server Archiving Agent, but I am quite sure that it doesn't do everything that we want, and am not sure if it will even run with Exchange 2003. As well as recommendations, I am interested in learning whatever you may know of the MS Exchange Server Archiving Agent.

I had never heard of this before your mention.  It appears it was written for Exchange 5.5 and was current 9 or 10 years ago.  I wouldn't use it.

I am using Enterprise Vault (now part of Symantec) and am very happy with it.  Reading through forum posts indicates that GFI Essentials is popular.  Click on Software here at MSExchange.org to see additional products.  Use your favorite search engine to find others.
