Whenver I try and install Exchange 2000 Enterprise edition, I get the following message and cannot proceed: The Component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services" cannot be assigned the action of "Install" because: -This version of Microsoft Exchange 2000 Setup upgrades Exchange 2000 Server edition to Exchange 2000 Enterprise edition; you must have Exchange 2000 Server edition installed on the this machine before running Setup.

What does this mean? I purchased the full version of Exchange 2000 Enterprise edition. The only problem here is that I had the evaluation edition on the machine prior to this, and of course, it wouldn't automatically uninstall, so I followed Microsoft's guide on manual removal. Any advice? Thanks!

Is that error set when running Forestprep (assuming that you removed the Exchange Organization from AD)?

What does the Setup Log say?

It couldn't be that it gives you this error while running forestprep cause forestprep doesn't install any services.

Do you have any log files of the installation? THis could help out a lot.
