I installed the exchange 2000 ADC, then ran the /forestprep, waited a while and ran the /domainprep after what seemed a long time I was able to run setup and went with the upgrade option all went smooth but when I opened up the system manager and drill down to the mailboxes all of them have a red circle with an X in them. Was I supposed to initialy make the ADC agreement for the public folders, recipients, replicate that to Active Directory and then run the upgrade?

Don`t worry, the red cross means that the accounts copied from 5.5 have been disabled. You need to set a password for each account and then Enable the account and the cross will disappear.

You can then Move the accounts to Exch 2000 stores.
