hey all,
I have installed exchange 2003,
sends fine, recieves fine through outlook and OWA,
but now i need to know what my smtp is so that i can send email in custome made applications.

right now my domain is mydomain.com
so my email would be person@mydomain.com
would my smtp be smtp.mydomain.com?
or do i have to do anything special to get that smtp address working.

If your domain name is "mydomain.com" and the server's name is e.g. "exchsrvr" then the fully qualified domain name for your smtp server is "exchsrvr.mydomain.com". Make sure that any application using that address actually can resolve that address using dns (i.e. basically your server hostingt the application should use your internal dns server). If you want to make things easier you could register a new host name record in your dns, e.g. "smtp.mydomain.com" and point that record to your exchange server. If you ever change the name of the server or need to use another server you simply modify the smtp.mydomain.com record to reflect the new server's name.
