Hi.
Our Exchange server at work is pretty screwed up. I'm not going to get into how exactly. My question is this: What is the easiest, yet safest way, to back up our Exchange 2000 Database then restore it so everything was working as it was before. In between after the "backup" I'd wipe the Win2K server, install a fresh copy, then install Exchange 2000 fresh.
How exactly should I go about backing up/exporting the database? What info will I need to make everything run as it did before (such as site name, orginization name, etc.)?
Thanks a lot.

The best method would be to Stop all the Exchange services, copy all the MDBDATA directories, reinstall the Exchange server (with the disasterrecovery switch - Q257415 XADM: Running a Disaster Recovery Setup), and restoring the databases.
Review the following articles at http://support.microsoft.com/ Q317393 - XADM: You Are Not Prompted to Use Exchange 2000 Disaster Recovery Mode Q257415 - XADM: Running a Disaster Recovery Setup Q257508 - XADM: Setup Options for Exchange 2000 Server Q326052 - XADM: White Paper - Disaster Recovery for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This should get you started! Good LucK!
