Hello,

I have a question about theses 2 command-line utilities .....

For example, if Exchange Database are damaged, which utility must I use to fix the problem ...? Eseutil or isinteg .....? Which switch does I have tu use to repair databases .......

What is the real difference between these 2 utilities .....?

Thanks for your help....

Gennaro

Hi Gennaro

well from what i know, ESEUTIIL works on the physical level of the database, it doesn't know that its working on a Exchange Database to it the Prive.EDB is just another Jet database, it fix things like Orphan LVs like when you do a Off line defrag and Corrupt LV when you use the P switch (word to the wise donĘt use the P switch)

On the other hand Isinteg works on the Exchange database at the logical level, it fixes things like calendar, Inboxes, ACL List, Attachment it check the database tables for any errors and fixes them. (XADM: Description of the Isinteg Utility)

As to your question when do I use what???
It depends on the problem you face if you got a database mounting problem then it safe to say that ESEUTIL will be the first tool you'll go to, if you got some appointment problem or weird things are being reported by users then ISINTEG will be recommended.

But donĘt look at this tools only when you got a problem, for me there maintenance tools, if you got a heavy Exchange server with lots of mailboxes and you move and delete mailboxes of and on your server, then a yearly off line defrage (using the Eseutil) will be recommended, same goes for the Isinteg utile

Well got I got a bit carried away
Hope I help you with your question
