I am pretty intimate with the Exchange Server family... I know a vendor, that I may or may not use the services of, that have installed PPTP services on an Exchange Server and have people pptping into that box for VPN. They also have shared folder and files on the same server. I don't like the solution, as PPTP has issues of its own, and Exchange can sometimes be strange. Would just like to hear from the rest of the community what you think. Thanks!

This is a question that falls into the Shakespeare category. To wit, "...to SBS or not SBS..." All of what you state will work, all of them are security risks on their own, all of them can be mitigated by proper planning and futzing around.

I have a VPN coming in to my home Exchange server without any issues, but that is connecting two Windows servers together. For VPN in general I don't like to terminate it on any Windows servers, I prefer something independent - usually a Cisco router, or something like that. Then I can remote in to a site, reboot the server and stay connected while it comes back. Simon.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm just asking because we will be starting the auditing process, and our auditing firm has security experts that will scrutinize our network down to the last rj45.... I would prefer to have a standalone appliance for VPN, and not run pptp for sure....
