I am new to this forum AND I'm installing my first Exchange server (2003) this week. ---------------------------------------------
In Outlook 2000, when I modify or create a new profile, I am looking for the SECURITY tab that allows me to "Always prompt for user name and password."
I see this in my Outlook 2003 client, but not Outlook 2000. Another Outlook user from another shop said his Outlook 2000 client has this feature. Is there more than one version of Outlook 2000...or is there a setting somewhere that allows me to enable/disable this security tab?
The problem I want to solve: all of my Outlook 2000 users currently have to log into the Exchange server. I'd rather they did not have to log in to check email while in the office at their PC.

Hi tbrain,
Open up Control Panel/Mail. Create a new "service profile"/Microsoft Exchange Server (or edit an existing one if already created). Go to properties, Advanced Tab.
You should see a "Logon network security" dropdown menu.
Select NT Password Authentication if your users log into your domain. Then they won't be prompted for a password when opening Outlook.
This is the default setting when creating a profile.

Does this option become disable in anyway if my users are not authenticating into a domain?
My network operating system is currently Novell (for good or bad), so users don't log into a domain, per se. By default, they are part of Windows Workgroups and log into Active Directory for email.
So, I realize they have to authenticate to the Exchange/Active Directory one way or another--but can the username/password be stored or remembered in such a way so that they aren't prompted to enter it every time they launch Outlook?
Is being a member of a Domain critical to enable this feature?
