I am planning on installing a CAS 2007 on a separate server. Where on the network should the CAS be placed??? In front or behind the firewall? Is there a best practice?

You are only permitted to put the CAS inside the network. Well, you can put it where you want, it's yours, but you will have to Swiss cheese the firewall if you do and you won't be in a supported configuration.
