Which specific antivirus shouldwe get? We need one to screen the emails at the server on top of the protection on the individual computers. We have an a small business server with MS Exchange 5.5 pack,MW NT server 4.0 pack with Proxy server Vers. 2.0 and a twin channel 128 modem. What do you suggest? Panda, Norton, McCaffrey ?? Which is best for our uses and protection? thank you

I would recommend Trend Micro ScanMail for Exchange Server, and Norton Antivirus for the desktops. This way, you have a 2-level protection (server level and desktop level). On top, you would not be relying on a single vendor.

We use InoculateIT from Computer Associates. It scans email, and also can be set to automatically update the desktops. CA puts out virus sigs almost weekly.David

No offense chaika, but InoculateIT sucks. We've had it on our desktops for about 3 years and do updates as soon as they come out. Our last estimate was that 75% of all incoming viruses were UNDETECTED and those machines were infected. We recently moved to Norton AV Corp. edition and were amazed at the difference. We ran manual scans for a week on all of our servers and desktops and found about 700 viruses. Since then, not one virus has gotten in. As for server side protection, I agree with Nizar. Get a seperate product from your desktops to provide 2 tier protection in case a virus isn't included in one products update. One of our customers uses Trend on the server and it works great.

The two products that get recommended within the consultancy field are Trend ScanMail or Sybari Antigen. Last I checked, both used either MAPI or AVAPI. I personally like ScanMail. Antigen uses a reverse-engineered DLL approach, which I'm not 100% ok with. Neil

We currently run Trend on the servers and Norton on the desktops. the only time we have had a problem was using MAPI scanning. I have recently upgraded to the newest ver (3.51) which allows for AVAPI and MAPI at the same time. Have had no problems sinces. mojo
