I am looking into deploying antivirus at the server level and want to get the best one on the market regardless of price. Does anyone have any feedback or success stories?

Does anyone know anything about a Mcafee or Norton Exchange 2003 API antivirus solution?

Does GFI Mailsecurity really have 3 antivirus sweets including Mcafee?

Anyone have experience in this area?

I'm running Symantec Mail Security 4.0 and it's great, except for a couple of filtering bugs. I don't know if this has been fixed yet, but all it is is when you set filtering for incoming mail, it doesn't work, you have to set it to scan the mail store and it will start working. They told me it was something that they are still working on fixing. Check it out at Symantec Mail Security 4.0

I've been running Symantec Anti-virus and Filtering for Exchange 2000, but had to upgrade to the new version (SMS4.0) because Exchange 2003 didn't work with 3.0.

Tiancum,

Good day

I would recommend a combination of antivirus applications for an exchange server. This recommendation is regardless of the price. I have used many and in my opinion Trend micro scan mail and TrendĘs interscan virus wall works well together with a compliment package of GFI Mailsecurity. This solution should give you a great level of protection and it is easy to setup.

Regards

RM

Panda antivirus also works very well, and the Panda Administrator Console makes it easy to administer all servers/workstations from one place.

We use Symantec Corporate Antivirus and Symantec Antivirus and Filtering for Exchange. Symantec has really improved their antivirus and filtering for exchange. There are some nice options.

Hi. The best antivirus is the one, who have the capacity of Open the Exchange databases an Scan for Virus, Not all the Antivirus have this option.

MailSecurity and MailEssential have a API to do that...Great Product (You have not 3, you have 5 Engines in one product).

Norton and NAI 2003 have the same API.

I personally prefer Trend Micro neatsuite.

GFI cause alot of problems with Exchange.

NAI is pretty good too.

Just for your info, check out grisoft. I like the fact that they provide free updates for 2 years and it runs on the same box as the exchange server. Its a little cheaper than most but it does a good job too.

I personally prefer Antigen above the rest. may not fit since price is a concern. but i would bet Antigen against anyone. The latest version of groupshield works well in our environment, so far.

Hey folks,

Since a few months have passed since this thread was last updated I was curious if anyone had some new insights on their E2K3 virus checkers.

We just upgraded to 2003 and I've been evaluating the new Panda BusinessSecure for Exchange. So far we've been pleasantly surprised. It's even found some old dormant viruses that my previous checker didn't.

Thanks for any input y'all may have.

I am running the just released McAfee's Groupshield with integrated SpamKiller on my Ex2003 server. I am more than happy with the performance!

The interface is nice once you get used to it. It allows for pracitically any configuration you can think of.

I like AVG (Grisoft) as well, it doesn't ever fight with any other programs and I've had it catch viruses that other programs let pass through.

We just switched from NAV to Antigen and I would NEVER go back. The price is a little higher, but you do get two years with them compaired to one year with Symantec and others.

Symantec is over priced for what it does. Plus it only has one scanning engine, compaired to Antigen that has at least 4, and you can buy more if you like.

The thing about anivirus is that you want to install it and forget about it. Let it do that work and Antigen does it for us!

I'm running too, Mail Security 4.0 for Exchange 2003, is great solution, for filtering files, you can configure your own rules for filter by files, words, content, etc.

Download and try it for 30 days
