I am looking for your suggestions on which DNS blacklist to implement in my 2003 server.
I want to install a "less-agressive" list that errors on the side of assuming it is a legitimate message. As I understand it, SpamCop is very good, but it errors on the side of blocking messages.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks.

The suggestion I would recommend in your scenairo is Sybari Software. We have it installed and have tailored it to our needs. We can filter by subject or sender. As for us, on top of Sybari we use a filtering service by Appriver.com. The MX record is sent to Appriver and they maintain a list of Blacklisted servers, then it is sent to us and Sybari filters the messages by subject or sender. We are more aggressive in our spam filtering than you want to be. So I would suggest you contact Sybari.com

spamhaus.org is by far the best one and it's free. I have yet to see this rbl block a legitimate email. I'm very aggressive with my spam detection. Besides spamhaus.org, all my emails are also checked by njabl.org and dsbl.org. These other 2 will make a couple of mistakes here and there, but we're talking about less than 1%. Some people think this is overkill, but when you are use to getting around 75 spam per day and now you are getting 1-5 per day, it's worth the overkill.
I use Symantec SMTP Gateway and it allows up to 3 RBLs. I just whitelist our most important domains and this solved most of the problems with the legitmate mail.
By the way, all the ones I use are FREE. SpamCop is not.
Good Luck! [ July 16, 2003, 05:11 PM: Message edited by: pvong ]
