I thought I can help my exchange server by disabling some exchange services. My avaialble physical memory is about 300MB out of 4GB. Since I only have CAS, hub and mailbox roles, I like to know what exchange services I can disable from the list below: Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology Service (started) Microsoft Exchange Anti-spam Update (disabled) Microsoft Exchange EdgeSync (disabled) Microsoft Exchange File Distribution (started) Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 (disabled) Microsoft Exchange Information Store (started) Microsoft Exchange Mail Submission(started) Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Assistants (started) Microsoft Exchange Monitoring (stopped - manual) Microsoft Exchange POP3 (stopped - manual) Microsoft Exchange Replication Service (started) Microsoft Exchange Search Indexer (started) Microsoft Exchange Service Host (started) Microsoft Exchange System Attendant (started) Microsoft Exchange Transport (started) Microsoft Exchange Transport Log Search (started) Microsoft Search (Exchange) (started) Do I need to have file replication and transport log search services running on the server? And what other service I can stop? Thanks

Thanks. We don't have any Edge transport server. We use an IIS SMTP server on windows 2003 as a smarthost. This relay server has GFI for spam filtering. Plus, we have no plan for unified messaging role. I don't want the users to share folders (not public folders) through OWA or any other means through exchange. In this case, do I need... Microsoft Exchange Anti-spam Update Microsoft Exchange File Distribution From your response, it seems that I can safely disable: Microsoft Exchange Transport Log Search Thanks

Personally I don't see anything to be gained from stopping services. You bought that memory to be used didn't you. People who want gb of RAM free are mad in my opinion. I want to see it all used, which is what Exchange does. Where the problems are is if Exchange doesn't give the RAM back when something else asks for it. If that is the case then you have to go looking for the source of the problem - in most cases it is third party products, often from Symantec, not Exchange itself. Simon.
