Why go with E2K instead of a pop server? - 20.Sep.2001 6:02:00 PM

My company currently has a pop-server running on a NT4.0 box. The software company has told us that they will no longer be supporting it. We will eventually change to E2K but I need some reasons (abilities/capabilities/features) that I can push for the change sooner rather than later. We are getting to roll-out our W2K domain in the next two weeks. I have a exchange test bed installed and working right now with OUTLOOK, POP, OWA, and IM working but it doesn't seem to be enough.

I need some business justifications or reasons for dumping our pop-server. We have about 100 people and about 60% of our communications with clients is via email.

Thanx, Dave Satchell

What do you use as an SMTP server? POP doesn't support sending mail. It is only a protocol that downloads messages.

With E2K you get POP3, NNTP, SMTP, IMAP, HTTP, and X.400 right out of the box. You have many more bells and whistles with E2K than you do with a simple POP server.

Address lists
PDA support
Instant Messaging
Tons of 3rd party support (faxing, backup, antivirus)

In general your going to find all the options you currently have plus many more.
