I pressently have an exch 2k running on a win2k server in an ad domain (native).
I had windows service pack 3 on it and everything worked honky doory, until I installed service pack 4.
when I restarted the server it is on the network but I can not connect to it via outlook xp. I get an errorr saying server unavilale?

I had update my other two domain controller, which were also win2k machinces to spk 4.

I am getting an error in the event viewer of 2071?? I checked it out and it says it is not replicated to other domain controlers, but in ad it is???

Should I wait for replication to take place or did I do a boo boo???

After further searching ms sit for information I found article 283257 which mentions event id 2071.
it ooffered three resolutions to the problem :
1. verifiy the domain controllers are visible in AD - I did and they are vissible

2. Ensure exchange seervices have rights to those containers ???- I did they did not and I gave them full rights to that container

3. Check if authenticated user groups have read permissions - I did and they do

I am at abit of a loss here of what happened???
I also logged into the exchange server and notice that the M drive is missing?? Is this because of the system attendant not starting? or is this due to a larger problem?

any help appreciated!

Ok I solved the problem.
But not sure exactly how???
I removed cert services and demoted from DC.

Now either I should not have made it an cert server or I should not have made it an DC.

Anyone one have any opinions on which one I goofed on??

Hey! I did experience similar problem. Applied SP4 to my Win2k native DC, after restart got BSOD (SCSIPORT.SYS bla,bla,bla..), I already knew that my Initio SCSI adapter suck ass. So I somehow removed SP4 in safe mode (because in normal mode it froze after logging in).
After another restart noticed that drive M:\ is missing, verified event log and found that Exch system attendant was unable to start.
Later after lots of tries to restart system attendant, I realised, that Netlogon service is not started (actually tried to start, but event log logged that Netlogon couldn't start because server service was not started, khm...?). So now if I start Netlogon manually after srv restart, then I can start Exch sys att., also manually though. Dunno if it was my hardware, what caused all this or SP4??
