Hello all, I continue to hear mixed information regarding the upgrade path from a Windows 2000/Exchange 2000 environment to Windows 2008/Exchange 2007. Either that its unsupported or multiple migrations are required, for example: W2K -> W2K3 -> demote 2K DC(s) -> hard-code DSAccess on Exch2K -> introduce 2K8 DC -> install Exch2007 SP1 on 2K8 -> move mailboxes -> remove Exch2K Current Environment 1 AD Forest/Site running... Windows 2000 Server SP4: DC, GC, DNS, DHCP Windows 2000 Server SP4: BDC, GC, DNS, Exchange 2000 SP3 Windows 2000 Server SP4: BDC Future Environment Windows Server 2008: DC, GC, DNS, DHCP Windows Server 2008: BDC, GC, DNS, DHCP Windows Server 2008: Exchange 2007 SP1 Proposed Upgrade Path 1. Hard-code directory service access (DSAccess) on our Exchange 2000 server and to point to a DC running 2000 2. On my root domain DC, prepare the forest for 2008: adprep /forestprepep /domainprep /gpprep 3. Check with schupgr for the schema version and give some time for replication to all DC's 4. Introduce a Windows Server 2008 member server and run dcpromo 5. Transfer FSMO rolls from 2000 DC to 2008 DC 6. Prepare AD for Exchange 2007 installation /PrepareAD /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions /PrepareSchema /PrepareDomain 5. Introduce a Windows 2008 Server and install Exchange 2007 SP1 6. Perform Mailbox moves from Exchange 2000 to 2007 7. Once comfortable, run dcpromo on Exchange 2000 box, demote, uninstall Exchange, remove server 8. On remaining 2 Windows 2000 DCs, run dcpromo and demote, remove server One question: will this work? Thank you. Greg Wiebe
