eventually got it to work, took alot of time though and I am still not 100% convinced it is all working ok.

worst bit was getting a certificate installed and working through the meeningless errors Activesync was returning.

let me know if you need any help, I think I have seen 70% of the errors now :)

This has worked for me an 2 friends.

on the server goto start, run and type mmc, select add/remove snapin
and then click add.

select certificates, computer account, close and OK,

expand certificates, then Personnel, then certificates again.

Now find the certificate you use on the website and right click and
select export from the all tasks menu.

Do Not export the private key, pick DER encoded binary x.509 (.cer) and
select a save location.

Now connect the pda to the cradle and click explore, when the window
appears cut and paste the certificate you exported to the PDA (I store
it on a SD Card).

Go back to the PDA and use file explorer, select the folder you stored
the certificate in and double click it, you get a warning message, say
yes or ok, and soft reset the PDA.

Now try syncing, hope this helps you. if not and you have MSN I will be happy to help via that.

Well, I didnt install a certificate yet (well, not one that is available to use with Windows Mobile 5). I installed the Self SSL Cert and I cant install that on the Windows Mobile PPC 6700.

I used selfssl myself and its showing up fine in there, but I told it to trust the certificate when I went to the website, I wonder if you need to do that first?

OK!

Installed the certificate
Restarted the Mail Server
Wiped the mobile device

And still, I get, "ActiveSync encountered a problem"!

yeah one of my users had this yesterday, it was seeing the inbox but not pulling the emails from it, or allowing us to set folders for syncing, I just removed email and readded it after a wireless sync, and it worked.
