Hi all,
Background: I have just updated our Windows 2003 servers to SP1, including our Exchange 2003 SP1 Server. Clients connect to Exchange using Outlook 2003 (laptops) and Outlook XP (desktops)
The SCW wizard has NOT been run on any of the servers.
All servers have been fully patched up to the max as of date May 7th 2005.
Problem: When connecting via VPN (using ISA 2000 on a W2K box) the laptop users cannot connect to their mailbox and the same symptoms as kb896742 are encountered.
When connected directly to the network, there are no problems at all connecting to their mailbox.
OWA works fine with no problems, so my users are using this, but i am getting nagged at to get this one resolved! Any assistance would be gratefully received.
If you require further information, let me know and i'll post what i can.
Thanks in advance,
Tom Yates

What errors (if any) are you getting in the system & application logs?

Hi, Thanks for your reply. There are no error in the event log. I have been doing the same post within MS Private newsgroups, and they have suggested looking at the MTU values. I have come across the following kb article, and thought i'd post for all those with the same info..
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=898060
I have requested the hotfix and i've applied it, and will be rebooting the server later tonight.
Thanks for your help, i will post my results after the reboot for your info and closure.
Thanks to all involved,
Tom Yates

Hi, It is still not resolved. Currently using the MS Private Partner newsgroups to resolve it, but getting nowhere fast!
Currently....
Windows XP SP1 with Outlook 2003 does not work. Windows XP SP2 with Outlook 2003 does not work. Windows XP SP1/SP2 with Outlook XP does work.
Cannot use RPCoHTTP as do not have Windows 2003 domain controllers.
If you want to contact me directly, send me a PM, and i can send you the whole thread from Microsoft.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Cheers,
Tom

Did you resolve your issue? i am having similar problems, but they only occur after 4-5 days of the server being up. Environment: Windows 2003 sp1 installed on Exchange 2003 sp1 server.
Problems: users connected via hardware ipsec vpn cannot connect to Exchange. Users on the local network, users connecting via software pptp vpn and owa clients CAN connect.
Problem is temporarily resolved by restarting Exchange server (restarting services does not fix). No errors in event log related to problem.
I want to rollback SP1 for Windows 2003 but a program that I would like to install: Neverfail for Exchange (Exchange redundancy active/passive program) requires sp1. so i'm stuck....

Yes, this problem is now resolved - It used the above hotfix (898060).
Although i did apply it, and it wasnt instantly applied, when i went through the problem with MS, i had some other updates to install and it could be that one of those activated the above hotfix.
The above hotfix has 2 different types - one for server and one for client.
