i would like to know if it is possible to have a Windows XP home machine to join a domain name. the only thing i can see and did was to change Workgroup to the domain name. i then go to Active Directory on the Exchange server and add this machine in. is this how you do it or is there some other way?

Officially no, you need XP Professional Edition.

However there is a workaround detailed below, but I wouldn't really recommend it.
