If I send an e-mail to a recepient on the Internet. The recipient is able to look into my Message Header and to see their the internal servernames that are used within my (Exchange) organisation:
Received: from uk001s009.d.grp ([10.8.1.57]) by damovo.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.4905); Received: from UK007S002.d.grp ([10.8.120.11]) by uk001s009.d.grp with Microsoft SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.2966);
The internal servernames are uk001s009 and uk007s002. Is there a way that these servernames are not put in the Message Header, but only the IP addresses?

You can fool the headers: Follow Q281224 - XCON: How to Modify the SMTP Banner. Change it to "My Mail Server" Next, create an "A" (or host) record on your internal DNS server of MAILA (maila.domain.local) That "A" record should reflect 1 of your Exchange servers Next, go to that Exchange 2000 server and open the Default SMTP Virtual Server properties. On the Delivery Tab, select the Advanced button and change the Fully Qualified Domain name (FQDN) to maila.domain.local Check DNS button should say Domain is valid Change that for all servers but make them maila, mailb, mailc, maild, etc...
Now when you send mail, the headers should say something like: Received: from maila.domain.local([10.8.1.57]) by damovo.com with My Mail Server;

along these same lines i have an e-contact application that relays email announcements and spoofed agent replies. customers are concerned that the private ip is visible to recipients. Any tricks like the one above to remove the IP from the original header sent to the relay server?
