I have two SMTP addresses:
me@mydomain.com and me@mydomain.co.uk
The first is my reply address. I am registered to a few mailing lists which I am no longer interested in. The problem is that I am registered as me@mydomain.co.uk.

If I try to send a mail to unsubscribe it will come from me@mydomain.com which obviously won't unsubscribe me as it's the wrong address. If I try to change the name in the From: field to reflect my .co.uk address I receive an NDR from my exchange server which says

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: unsubscribe
Sent: 15/02/2005 10:05

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

unsubscribe@bob.com on 15/02/2005 10:05
You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator.

Is there any way I can overcome this? I still receive mail sent to both addresses so don't really want two seperate mailboxes.

Thanks

Matt

Set your other SMTP proxy address as the primary (via Properties in ADUC), then try unsubscribe again. When unsubscribed successfully change the primary SMTP proxy address back.

Yes, that's fine as a one off for one user.

Now say there are a few people that are members of several mailing lists which they may wish to unsubscribe from, not necessarily all at the same time.

Is it possible to give a user permission to choose their own primary SMTP address from their other aliases for the sake of 1 or 2 occasional emails?

I think I already know the answer to this. I also think I probably won't like the answer.

Hi Matt,

Unfortuantely your thoughts are correct, there's no way for a user to select between his SMTP addresses without using third party software such as ChooseFrom by IvaSoft:

I've tried choosefrom but all I seem to see when I send an email is

FROM: me@mydomain.com
Reply to: smtp:john.doe@choosefromdemo.com

When reading through the instructions it states that if you have an exchange 5.5 server you must run the batch file on a server with windows2000/XP/2003 and forward mail to the SMTP server. We are running exchange 5.5/2003 mixed so I have tried choosefrom on both the exchange 2003 server and the other method suggested but I am still not experiencing any success.

I must be going wrong somewhere as this message board doesn't seem to have any threads where people haven't got choosefrom to work. Can anyone offer me any pointers?
