Hi,
Is there a freeware tool is needed to convert EDB to PST ? (I recovered a h/w problem, but I only have the MDB dir where EDB files stay and want to use them in the new installation of Exc2000 on a new disk).

Due to the nature of the .EDB file's structure in holding multiple mailboxes, converting your EDB to a single PST would not be possible; however there are tools that allow you to export individual mailboxes to separate .PST files.
I am not sure of the condition of your EDB file, but in order to utilize this utility your mailbox store must be mounted and the user operating the tool must have full access to all mailboxes that are to be exported.

Oops I didn't notice where I was - this is a public folder forum I doubt my above post will help
However, if you are using Outlook, simply select the top of your public folder tree and from the [File] menu select
1) 'Import and Export' 2) 'Export to File' 3) 'Personal Folder File (.PST) 4) Check the 'Include Subfolders' box 5) ... I think you can figure it out from here:)

You can use "Kernel for Exchange Server" which is a perfect solution when you need to recover user mailboxes and emails stored in .edb file of MS Exchange Server.. i have used it. you can find it at:: http://www.edbtopst.com

Freeware tool is not available in the recent market for exchange recovery! You can use third party tool (having some cost) and recover exchange mailboxes to pst mailboxes. I recommend you to use Enstella EDB to PST software (its price is much cheaper than others') and convert exchange database user accounts to Outlook .pst files. Freeware EDB to PST trail pack offered by Enstella for testing purposes. Get the trail version tool from http://www.edbtopstconversion.com
Of course there are free EDB to PST converters available but they have a lot of limitation.
I recommend you to use Stellar Phoenix Mailbox Exchange Recovery tool. With this EDB Recovery software you can convert your Exchange database (.edb) file to pst files accurately and quickly. It is also capable to recover lost or deleted mailboxes in MS Exchange Server. It supports MS Exchange Server 2010, 2007, 2003, 2000 and 5.5 versions.

Microsoft ExMerge as referenced below is free, however;
1. Only supports up to Exchange 2003 2. Only supports a mounted/online database and your post says that this is an offline copy of the EDB so alas ExMerge will not work.
3. If you want to ensure that you get all the data exported properly from the EDB I would suggest that you check out Kroll PC, Quest RM OR Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp since they have the most accurate and effective tools on the market.

You can use exmerge, but you have to make a recovery server with the same name and do a hard repair on the database to change the database header. Then once the store is online you you can exmerge out the data but you have to ensure the administrator account has Send as and Recieve as rights, which it does not by default.
Due to the limited functionality, Exmerge.exe utility may not work in your case. So, you need to go for a third party application. Although there are many third party programs are available in the market and you can select any one. But I would suggest to read their features carefully and also check their demo version. As per my experienced, I would suggest this highly recommended and cost effective EDB to PST Converter to repair and convert .edb to .pst files: http://www.recover-computerdata.com/exchange-server-recovery.html
I have personally used this tool and found that there is no limit of database sizes and it provides batch conversion of mailboxes into .pst files i.e you can convert any no. of user mailboxes into distinct .pst files at a time. More features are listed on the website.
You can try demo version of this application to check whether it will work or not in your case. Supported versions are Exchange server 2010, 2007, 2003, 2000, and 5.5.

We tried demo version first and after satisfy with the result, we purchased it and successfully converted complete Exchange server database file into Outlook .pst file. We are very grateful to you !

Whenever Exchange server database corrupted, or to take personal PST file with you when you are going somewhere else or when Exchange Server goes down and you want to work with then it is required to convert EDB to PST. Freeware tools are available online to use it for this purpose. Choose the professional one for this which will not make any alteration while conversion process.
