Hi,
When I ran the adprep /forestprep command from the windows server 2003 cd-rom I got this error - is this critical or should i ignore it at go on with the adprep /domainprep?:

[Status/Consequence] ADPREP was unable to merge the existing security descriptor with the new access control entry (ACE). [User Action] Check the log file Adprep.log in the system root System32\Debug\Adprep\Logs dire ctory for more information.
Adprep encountered a Win32 error. Error code: 0x57 Error message: The parameter is incorrect..
Adprep was unable to update forest-wide information. [Status/Consequence] Adprep requires access to existing forest-wide information from the schema maste r in order to complete this operation. [User Action] Check the log file, Adprep.log, in the C:\WINNT\system32\debug\adprep\logs\20050 413171245 directory for more information.

ADPREP is used to upgrade a Windows 2000 schema to a Windows 2003 schema before installing Windows 2003 on a windows 2000 DC.
If you want to make a Windows 2003 server a DC, then run DCPROMO.EXE instead.

You may need to enable writing to the schema via the AD Schema snapin to allow updates to schema before running ADPREP.

I know you said you were following a particular article but can you confirm that you are running the command whilst logged onto the DC that is the Schema Master and are logged on with the Schema Admin account.

We are getting the same error but when we run adprep /domainprep. This seems to be related to the fact that our GC and Operational Role Masters being held by computer1 gives us an ERROR when viewing the Infrastructure Master Tab. If we then select to transfer the role to the DC that we are connected to, it seems to work, but once we go back into that page again, we have ERROR again in the top box.
adprep /forestprep worked fine.
If we go into ntdsutils and seize OR transfer the infrastructure role - it states that the transfer is not needed that the server (DC) that we are using already knows about 5 roles - one of which is the infrastructure master role.
We cannot upgrade to Windows 2003 Server until we get passed this issue.
Can anyone offer assistance?
Thank you
